If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I was very excited to have won the Dorset Cereal Little Blog Awards last month. Whoop! I wasn’t sure whether to blog about this as I didn’t want to come across all, well… ‘Oscar acceptance speech’ on you….! However it would have been really rude of me not to say thank you to everyone who voted. Also, I thought it was an opportunity to encourage people who like reading blogs to nominate their favourites for the award. This link will take you to the nomination page. While you are there, you’ll also be able to vote for the blogs that have already been nominated. It’s a great way to discover new blogs actually.
Do I dare tempt fate by suggesting the weather is improving? With spring in full swing (kind of) and summer on the way (I hope) I am reorganising my wardrobe a little. It turns out I need tshirts. I don’t have enough! So with that in mind, I have been mooching around Etsy for quirky, hand-printed tees. I hope you enjoy this treasury list, curated by moi, entitled Tremendous Tees.
PS If you’d like to have a go at making a treasury and embedding it into your own blog, check out my tutorial.
I know a lot of my blog readers run their own creative small businesses, so I though it would be useful to share this video. I have been using Kashflow for years and I rate it very highly indeed. It actually makes doing your small business accounts rather enjoyable! (Really!) If you are interested in trying Kashflow for free, click on the banner at the the bottom of this post. There’s no obligation to buy; you don’t need to enter a credit card number or any rubbish like that. If you do subscribe you’ll benefit from a discount because I have referred you (and I will benefit too, which is rather nice. Full disclosure here!) You’ll pay £14.99 a month, not the usual £15.99. To access your free trial, and benefit from a discount if you subscribe, you need to visit the Kashflow website by clicking the banner below as it contains a special code. Click the banner then click the ‘try Kashflow’ button (top right).
In a fairly recent podcast I mentioned that I was doing some freelance writing for a fabulous local magazine called The Rock. It’s a quarterly magazine and I am writing a 2 page craft article for them in every issue. It’s great fun and I am really proud of my first article which you can download it here: Rock Article.
I really don’t have the attention span to create large, cross stitch art pieces in multiple colours. However, I thought I’d share this idea for a really special card (perhaps for someone’s wedding or a special birthday). Keep the cross stitch motif small, stitck to one colour, and you can finish the card in an evening. You can get lots of wonderful cross stitch books from your local library; pick a motif you like and get stitching. Alterntively, download some cross stitch graph paper and design your own motif. Enjoy!
This bumper episode of the iMake podcast is a feast of crafty, and indeed musical, goodness. In this show we dig out our sewing machines and gardening tools (tying not to get the 2 mixed up). We celebrate Guernsey’s Liberation Day and consider ways to combat ‘inspiration overload’ over a cup of coffee. Friends of the show, Kate and Charles, also put in an appearance. So grab a work in progress, a glass of Pimms and join me for a crafty catch up.
The iMake blog is where Guernsey girl Martine shares her love of everything creative and handmade. Topics include handmade crafts, photography and cookery as well as a generous helping of Guernsey culture. The blog is also home to the iMake podcast. So go on, join in, and celebrate the sheer joy of being creative and making stuff.
Please leave comments on the blog or contact Martine by email on info@imake.gg .
